This half term we will start our work by looking at the book “Tuesday” within the context of interviews, play scripts and reports. Grammar will focus on passive voice, direct and reported speech. We will also be writing a sequel to the story.
Maths
Below I have outlined the topics we will cover this half term. Please continue to use Mathletics and practice times tables up to 12 x 12.
Year 4
Negative numbers
Addition and subtraction
Multiplication and division – grid method
Time, timetables and co-ordinates
Year 5 &6
Division
Fractions, decimals, percentages and mean
Written division; multiplying and dividing fractions
Perimeter, area and volume
Number, subtraction and algebra
SATs club will start for the year 6 children only. We will also be completing practice papers during some of our maths and English lessons
Humanities
We are continuing with our topic of South America. We will move onto the geography of the area include climate, weather and physical and human features.
DT
In Design Technology we will be looking at food from South America and designing empanadas (a stuffed bread or pastry which is baked or fried). We will look at South American crops while learning new skills such as measuring, storing food correctly preparing ingredients. This will be an exciting topic making some yummy food.
Science
A new topic of Earth and Space.
We will be looking at describing the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system, the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth. Describing the Sun, Earth and Moon as approximately spherical bodies and using the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.
